Let’s Talk Boho Braids.

Let’s Talk Boho Braids.

Boho Braids Guide & Aftercare

Boho braids are a luxury protective style designed to be soft, lightweight, versatile, and long-lasting. The overall look and longevity of your install depends heavily on the quality of hair used and how well the style is maintained after your appointment.

With the correct hair and proper maintenance, your boho braids can remain beautiful, fresh, and manageable for weeks — even through holidays, gym sessions, humidity, swimming, and everyday styling.

The Hair You Need For Boho Braids

Boho braids require two different types of hair:

1. Pre-Stretched Braiding Hair

This is the hair used for the actual braid base. Most stylists use pre-stretched synthetic braiding hair because it grips the natural hair better, keeps the braids neater for longer, and holds up well over time.

2. Human Hair Bundles

Human hair is used for the loose curls throughout the braids and at the ends to create the signature boho look.

This is the most important part of the style.

Good-quality human hair stays soft, defined, and manageable for much longer, while lower-quality hair can quickly become dry, tangled, or matted once exposed to water, heat, humidity, or product build-up.

For the best results, premium-quality human hair is always recommended.

Human Hair Is Not Included

At this time, human hair is not provided or sold. Clients must purchase their own hair before their appointment.

If you are unsure what to buy, guidance can be given before your booking to make sure you purchase the correct amount and texture.

How Much Hair Do You Need?

The amount of hair required depends on:

  • Desired length
  • Braid size
  • Fullness
  • Curl density

Longer lengths and fuller styles naturally require more bundles.

Fullness Guide

Light Fullness

More braids visible with smaller amounts of curls added throughout.

Natural Fullness

Balanced mix of curls and braids. Soft, effortless, and one of the most popular options.

Full Fullness

Very curly, voluminous look with minimal braid visibility. Gives a fuller, more glam finish.

Please note: this is a general guide only. Hair amounts may vary depending on your natural hair density, braid size, and desired final look.

If unsure, it is always better to size up slightly rather than not have enough hair during your appointment.

Colour Matching

For the most seamless and natural-looking finish, your curly human hair should closely match the colour of your braiding hair.

Using mismatched tones can affect the overall blend and final appearance of the install.

Boho Braids Aftercare

Proper maintenance is what keeps boho braids looking soft, neat, and long-lasting.

When caring for boho braids, less product is usually better. Overloading the hair with heavy products can create build-up, weigh the curls down, and increase tangling.

Daily Maintenance

  • Lightly mist curls with water
  • Use leave-in conditioner sparingly
  • Apply lightweight oils only when needed
  • Gently separate curls with fingers to prevent matting
  • Avoid over-soaking the curls

Night Routine

Your nighttime routine makes a huge difference in how long your braids stay fresh.

Before sleeping:

  • Separate curls gently
  • Put braids into loose plaits or twists
  • Wrap hair with a silk or satin scarf or bonnet
  • Alternatively, sleep on a silk pillowcase

Reducing friction while sleeping helps minimise frizz, dryness, and tangling.

Important Information

Boho braids naturally become more lived-in over time due to the loose curly pieces throughout the style. Proper maintenance and good-quality hair will significantly improve the longevity and appearance of your install.

Luxury results start with quality hair, proper care, and consistency.
